I have noticed brown discolouration in the bottom of my coconut oil jar, has my oil gone bad should I throw it away?
CONGRATULATIONS! You have in your possession a completely raw, organic product that has not been bleached, refined or deodorized.
It is a valid question, and if you were consuming a lower grade coconut oil you may have cause for concern. But, with the high quality coconut oil we sell at Alpha there is no need to worry.
Because there is no refining or persevering done to most organic, raw products they may not look as aesthetically pleasing as other products that have been bleached to look pretty. But who wants to consume bleach!
What you are seeing is the natural sedimentation of the coconut. It is as good for you and delicious as the pure white bits you find in your jar.
Alpha’s DME coconut oil has been thoroughly tested and tried and the discoloured coconut oil is just as good as the pure white parts. If you would like it to look white again, simply place the jar in warm water until the oil completely liquefies shake the jar well and put in the fridge. You will notice that the sediment disperses back into the rest of the coconut oil.
