Direct Micro Expelling uses a totally different approach to coconut compared to that of the copra industry. With DME we take (small-scale) processing to the nuts rather than taking the nuts (in debased form) to a (large-scale) processing plant. A consequence is that we produce a virgin coconut oil of vastly superior quality.

“Direct Micro Expelling” is highly descriptive of the technology. It is:

Direct — quick (oil produced within 1 hour of opening the nut) and efficient (OEE 85%)
Micro — small scale (family farm size)
Expelling — extraction of virgin oil and meal

DME Virgin Coconut Oil Is a Success Story!

The D.M.E. coconut oil structure is working in the lives of many of the natives on the Solomon Islands. From the inception of a device called the SAM press thoughtfully created and designed by Dr. Dan Etherington on a mission to bring hope to some of the poorest communities in the world. His dream has not only come to life but is now growing in leaps and bounds.
Beginning in May 2004, Dr. Dan Etherington and his team introduced the coconut Direct Micro Expelling (DME) Units for the extraction of Organic Virgin Coconut Oil in rural communities. August 2004 saw the full introduction of one complete production station in the Solomon Island people. Now there is a total of 25 presses in operation plus a further 9 under construction covering 5 provinces.

Even though it was not the intent, international recognition has been achieved along the way and the Organic Certification for the Virgin Coconut Oil it produces has met export market demands.

The D.M.E story has become a story of hope and prosperity to a community who had known the hardship of war and a devastated economy. Now the lush tropical paradise is back on its feet and continues to work with Etherington and turn the tide of their own economy and begin to rebuild their communities and bring hope of a brighter future for the generations to come.
